The Faculty of Humanities was established in 1985, at the same time as Szczecin University. The faculty is authorized to grant doctoral and post-doctoral degrees in pedagogy and philosophy.
The faculty is composed of six institutes (Philosophy, History and International Relations, Pedagogy, Psychology, Political Science and European Studies, Sociology) and three Chairs (Research on Conflict and Peace, the Chair of Arts Education, the Chair of Ethnic Studies and Cultural Anthropology).
Students may take part in national and international student mobility programs like MOST or ERASMUS (24 partner universities, e.g. in Bari, Lyon, Budapest, Vienna) and take advantage of cooperation carried out within the Jean Monnet Center.
There is also a humanist reading room boasting ca. 30,000 volumes and access to specialized multidisciplinary databases and e-versions of magazines.
What is important, the faculty tries to provide infrastructure which aides disabled students, for instance in the form of induction loops in lecture rooms, computer workstations for the visually impaired, lifts and safety ramps. Students of the faculty have general Internet access.
Lectures are delivered mainly in Polish and, in the case of some study programs or courses, in foreign languages.
